Bluebird of Happiness: Dark Heart Collection.

The Dark Heart Collection is my newest series of Hand Stitched Watercolor Paintings. This collection is much more abstract than my previous work and showcases the stitched backside of each piece along with the front in its display. This allows light to shine through the painting to create a glittered effect. The heart shape is the universal symbol for love and it is still immediately recognizable even through my convoluted representations. Through these seven pieces I am attempting to understand the constant struggle between the darkness in the world and the goodness in our hearts.

Life is a series of decisions we make based on the uncontrollable world all around us; the enveloping darkness. It surrounds and runs through us to make patterns in our pain. When the unforeseeable forces us to explode, will we splinter apart with light to shatter the darkness? Will we burst apart with color to blot out the evil? These dark events are difficult to navigate but I hope these six hearts will bring hope because through it all our heart strings are untangled and anchored at our core.
